Barry Coles
I have been training in Uechi-Ryu since 1990 under the instruction of Paul Natzyl, the founder of the Shi Gakko Shudan (The Four School Group). I became a fully qualified instructor in 1998 and acheived Godan, 5th Dan Black Belt in 2013. In 2014 I was asked by Paul Natzyl to take over the Shi Gakko Shudan.
I take a keen interest in other styles of Karate and fighting arts such as Wing Chun Kung Fu, Judo, Aikido, Jiu Jitsu and Boxing. Any knowledge gained is passed on to my students.
I believe Karate promotes valuable life skills, such as confidence, discipline, hard work and respect. People who have trained in Martial Arts for long enough will know that Karate is not just about fighting.
I have made some very good friends during my envolvement in Uechi-Ryu, and it gives me great satisfaction to know that my students are also building good friendships. As well as working hard to improve their own skills, they are often seen helping each other, regardless of any difference they may have in rank.
I really enjoy the challenges that training brings and hope that my students do too.
